The outdoors are the ideal classroom for developing responsibility and initiative. MLI uses a process called “Empowerment Leadership” to engage students in the development of their own strengths. Each day students are selected to organize and plan the day. This includes everything from setting the schedule to route finding to encouraging the team when things get tough. Each leader is shadowed and mentored by an MLI instructor throughout the day and given a full feedback by the team in the evening.
Students are also encouraged to develop and teach classes throughout each expedition. As they teach, not only do they learn the material but they hone their presentation skills. Students will learn creative presentation skills from the entertaining and engaging classes by their instructors. Students will learn leadership theories from theorists around the world and receive a world-class education in setting and achieving goals.
